Can you imagine rushing to get into the bathroom for some privacy, but as soon as you decide to close the door, your cat slips in and joins you? Well, it used to happen to me so many times. At the time you are all set anticipating your moves, but once your feline friend comes, it takes some minutes to think whether to send her out or share the room with her. Are the cat looking for your attention or is there something else making them invade your privacy? Why does my cat follow me into the bathroom?
If that is the question running through your mind, here is the reason!
Curiosity
Cats love routines, and nothing makes them comfortable than predicting their owner’s routine and anticipating their actions. They want to be part of the owner’s routine in a way. If you do your routine activities, they get interested, and they will want to join in. The bathroom has an atmosphere that is interesting to the cat. First, you do exciting things with fun objects in your washroom.
First, there is tissue roll, sound from the shower, elastic hair ties, toilet flush, cotton swabs, etc. With all these objects, your cat can’t stay away from the area.
They said, “Curiosity killed a cat,” and that means cats are naturally curious and so it’s normal for them to follow you into the bathroom.
Vulnerability
According to the research, cats may feel vulnerable in your absence. Cats are predators, but at times they also fall prey, and they know it. Since the owner is the source of comfort as well as the safety, cats may feel insecure with the owner behind closed doors and that s why they follow you into the bathroom to continue enjoying the safety you offer.
Cats are micro-managers
Cats love to know whatever is happening in the house and once you slip into the bathroom and closes the door behind you, you must be doing something mysterious. Since your home, the cat’s territory and your bathroom are within his circle of influence. So, how can you shut him away from his area? What if you are making friends with other cats? He will only know what is happening once he checks.
He misses you
If you are the kind of owner that spends so much time away from home, your cat may always miss you, and once you get home, they may not want to stay away from you. Besides, they know that you may not stay at home for long and they want to make the most out of it as long as you are in the house. Following you into the bathroom is s a sign of loving and appreciating your company.
Adventure
If you love observing cats during the day, you will notice that they are adventurous. Much of the home is as impressive as an amusement park for our cats and your bathroom is not an exception. To you, the bathroom might seem ordinary but to cats, the fittings, toiletries, toilet brushes, and overalls bathroom objects awaken a cat’s sense greatly. Since cats are usually interested, the bathroom is an audio, a visual, and a tactile playground that stimulates a cat’s need to interact with their surroundings.
Bottom-line
Cats are man’s best friend, and once you get used to living with him, your house will always feel empty without him. However, the fact that he loves following you into the bathroom might become uncomfortable to some, while to others it’s normal and does not bother them at all. If you are the kind that does not like that, it is about time you start discouraging the behavior as cats learn fast and once you discourage the behavior, they will know that the bathroom is a no go zone and will no longer follow you.
