How long can a dog go without water?

Water is the basic thing for a living being on the earth. If you question how long can a dog go without water? It’s a bit silly. There is no creature on earth, which survives more than a week without water.  However,  it all depends on the dog breed, strength, and health conditions.

It is easy to survive for the dogs without food,  generally when sick dogs skip meals. But when dogs are not given water, it is highly unpredictable for their survival. They almost survive and tolerate conditions for four days without water.

What happens to the dogs when they go without water for a long time?

Dogs are the most playful pets and almost stay active all day. But when they go for long hours without water, it reflects body parts and even leads to death.

• -At initial stages or on the first day of the dehydrated day,  they almost lose all the strength while jumping, exercising, and playing. So the little amounts of leftover strength will drive for the next day. 
• – If your dog has good immune power and strength at its initial stages, on the second day, you can see your dog a bit healthy but cannot ensure it’s strength. You may feel your dog being sick and losing its capacity to stay active. 
• -The third day is the toughest day for your dog; it cannot have enough ability to groom or to stretch. All the body tissues crave water and don’t allow your dog to stand even. As a pet owner, this is one of the painful moments for you to see your dog suffering. You cannot even find water on its tongue. It is your dog’s crucial state, and it could be a better idea if you take them to the local vet. 
• -These are your dog’s final days; it is really hard for a dog to stay without food and water on the fourth day. It is simple to say that your pup cannot open its eyes, and its body is entirely dehydrated. And also, there are no more nutrients to carry into cells. You can see the sunken face and dry nose of your adorable pets. Only vets can decide if they can survive or not. There is no hope if the medications could help the dog recover its state.

What may cause your dog to go without water?

It is noted that dogs should get nearly 60ml of water per 1kg of weight. This makes your dog hydrated and withstand all the temperatures. But dogs are the most playful pets, and it is difficult to hydrate them at regular intervals. There are many reasons why they go for long hours without water. 

• -If you are a busy pet owner,  you fail to give water at regular intervals. Thus, dogs lose their habit of doing water and slowly stop drinking water. 
• – When dogs have infections in the gallbladder, it is common for dogs to lose their water appetite. 
• – Age also impacts your dog to go without water for long hours.
