The results of the new DNA study reveal the truth about the origin of the domestic dog

The results of the new DNA study reveal the truth about the origin of the domestic dog The new research published by the Science magazine is based on genetic analysis of ancient and modern dog and wolf fossils. It is agreed that wolfs are the dogs' ancestors. Earlier the scientists claimed that the dogs were domesticated in the Middle East or East Asia.

Researchers studied DNA from samples of 18 ancient creatures that lived up to 36,000 years ago in Argentina, Belgium, Germany, Russia, Switzerland and the United States and were similar in appearance to wolf and dogs. Then they compared these materials to modern ones from 49 wolves from North America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East, 77 dogs of different breeds.

The result of this DNA analysis leads us to hypothesis that the dogs were domesticated in Europe at least 18,000 years ago and originated from a population of grey wolves that is now extinct.
